Fed up of the long tram journey from Mitcham Junction and the walk from the Croydon Tramlink to the ground? There is a more scenic route so dump Southern at Mitcham Junction station and join us for a walk to the Campus Society Stadium along the River Wandle to raise a few quid for the 12th Man Fund.
Turning left out of the station we will walk seven minutes and stop for lunch at the Crown pub which serves a variety of beers, show Sky Sports and has a garden if it is warm.
We will then turn right onto Goat Lane and walk to the bridge over the River Wandle.
Walking down to the end of Watermead Lane, we will join the pathway along the Wandle.
The river is roughly nine miles long and it passes through the London Boroughs of Croydon, Sutton, Merton, and Wandsworth to join the River Thames. The river is home to many European eels (Anguilla anguilla) which are fairly rare to encounter in British rivers these days.
A fair few of our fans actually eat eels so there is something for everyone on this tour.
Along the way we will observe coots (Fulica Atra), the grey heron (Ardea Cinerea), the endangered eastern grey squirrel (Sciurus Carolinensis) and the domestic cat (Felis catus).
Nearing the ground, we will pass the 3G pitch at the Bog End.
At this point we must leave the river due to a local angling club fencing it off so we walk along the path to the pampas grass (Hackbridge Harry can probably explain the significance of this)
From here we can hop over a ditch and into the bar and ready ourselves for Dulwich Hamlet vs Tonbridge Angel's FC in the FA Cup.
